Tell me what bullet-firing device you know of that has a “calibre” “setting”. Caliber is a dimensional calculation of the bore of the gun. They don’t have “settings” as you you can’t change the diameter of the bore. Seems you have more stored ignorance you should get rid of.
Well, I suppose the exception that proves the rule is the choke on a shotgun – you can vary the spread of the pellets. Not bullets, to be sure, but controllable nevertheless.
In my previous life, we had short barrel, open choke shotguns for ‘crowd control’ – the theory being you would aim low, bounce the pellets of the pavement to inflict “spectacular and bloody, but not lethal wounds” to the lower extremities to take the fight out of ‘em…
I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that the guards inside the Eye are just prisoners who happen to be Tha’Latta and therefore get the privilege of bullying the other prisoners around in exchange for keeping things peaceful enough that the air doesn’t have to be vented.
