I would like to refute his ‘easily distracted’ comment. He’s so utterly focused on our gray-haired friend, that he has completely disregarded Renna… who in this time has most likely already retrieved her weapon.

Oh! You don’t like democracy? You want a dictatorship? We can TOTALLY do that!!!

(it’ll be just like… most of Europe, all the communist countries, anyplace with a king or queen or emperor, and all them places Americans go for vacations…)

He brings up some interesting points, maybe humanity isn’t best suited for rule of the galaxy…

But… he says their rule is ‘direct.’ Yet we already know it involves multiple triumvirates, each of which is incapable of operating without one of its members, and each member of which spends half their life making just the right political (albeit violent and dangerous) moves to maneuver into that position. How is a system of multiple interdependent oligarchies more ‘direct’ than a republic (or whatever the humans have set up here)?

A multi party democracy like the european union will take the galaxy into a hell of constant negotiations, maneuvering and shadowplay, without ever deciding on anything, ever, in fear of losing votes for supporting unpopular stuff.

I think he means “direct” in that if someone opposes them, they just get wiped out. As opposed to the diplomacy/backroom dealing/ most favored nation trade status/ support insurgencies model of empire that humans like so much.
